Event Description

Facilitator Workshop

The Facilitator Workshop is open to military, law enforcement, and fire personnel who are responsible for their unit’s fitness. This workshop will provide the facilitator basic strength and conditioning concepts that will prepare the attendee to implement strength and conditioning programs into their units fitness program.

This is a 3 day course that will be both lecture and hands-on. Topics covered will include: Basic Exercise Physiology, Strength Training principles, Speed development, Agility Training, Conditioning, Program Design, Injury Prevention, and Nutrition.

At the completion of the workshop the attendees should be able to design, implement, and properly instruct tactical personnel in weight training and metabolic conditioning as it relates to operational fitness. A certificate of completion will be given to attendees who complete the 3 day workshop.

TSAC Symposium

“Advanced Techniques in Operational Fitness”

The TSAC Symposium is designed to provide cutting edge information to strength and conditioning professionals who work directly with police, fire, and military personnel. Attendees will learn various methods to develop “Operational Fitness”.

This is a 2 day symposium that will be primarily hands-on. Topics will include: Nutrition, Assessment, Speed, Agility, Plyometrics, Circuit Training, Olympic lifts, and working with implements.

At the completion of the symposium the attendees will have a better understanding of these concepts and methods. The symposium will be very interactive and great opportunity to network with other professionals. A certificate of completion will be given to attendees who complete the 2 day symposium.

Day One

Time Description
08:00 – 09:00 Introduction to the Tactical Athlete (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss who is a Tactical Athlete and why these officers need to be treated as athletes.
09:00 – 10:00 Basic Exercise Physiology (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss the basic effects that exercise has on the human body and how it relates to the physical demands of being an operator.
10:00 – 11:00 Metabolic Conditioning (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss the basic effects that exercise has on the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems and various strategies for training.
11:00 – 12:00 Principles of Resistance Training (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss the basic principles of resistance training and how it is applied.
12:00 – 13:00 Lunch (provided)
13:00 – 14:00 Periodization (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss the importance of Periodization as it relates to program design. Linear, non-linear, undulating and unplanned non-linear periodization models will be discussed.
14:00 – 15:00 Program Design (Lecture)
This presentation will discuss the various ways to design a strength and conditioning program.
15:00 – 17:00 Periodization and Program Design Activity (Group Activity)
This activity will have attendees work together in groups designing programs for different scenarios and then present them to the class

Day two

08:00 – 10:00 Tactical Nutrition and Supplementation (Lecture)
This presentation will show how proper nutrition fuels the body. We will discuss the every day nutrition as well as operational nutrition. This is a “food first” approach however; proper supplementation strategies will be addressed.
10:00 – 12:00 Assessment and Testing (Lecture/Hands-on)
This presentation will discuss the different assessment tools and techniques that can be utilized in any setting. Topics covered will include FMS, Vo2, force and velocity analysis, and many more.
12:00 – 13:00 Lunch (provided)
13:00 – 15:00 Speed/Agility Drills (Hands-on)
This session will the various drills that can be utilized to enhance speed, agility and quickness.
15:00 – 17:00 Plyometric Training (Hands-on)
This session will discuss the various tests that can be utilized to assess anaerobic fitness.

Day Three

08:00 – 10:30 Olympic Lifts (Hands-on)
This session will teach the proper progression of the Clean, Clean & Jerk, and the Snatch. This session will also include variations of each lift as well as alternatives.
10:30 – 12:00 Training with Implements (Hands-on)
This presentation will discuss the utilization and effectiveness of various implements. Topics include the use of tires, logs, sand bags, and much more.
12:00 – 13:00 Lunch (provided)
13:00 – 15:00 Suspension Training (Hands-on)
This session will discuss the various methods utilizing one’s own body weight to enhance strength and fitness.
15:00 – 16:30 Circuit Training (Hands-on)
This session will teach various methods and program designs for circuit training.
16:30 – 17:00 Round Table Q & A
This session will allow the attendees to ask questions of the presenters and staff.
