NATIONAL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2025 LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP HONOREE

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — With immense pride, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Joseph P. Weir, PhD, FNSCA, as our prestigious 2025 Legacy Scholarship Honoree.

Created in 2022, the Legacy Scholarship awards $2,000 annually to one applying NSCA Member pursuing a doctoral degree in a strength and conditioning-related field. The Legacy Scholarship was developed to acknowledge the lasting impact and dedication of NSCA Members and is given in honor of a different member each year.

Dr. Joseph P. Weir is a Professor in the Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences at the University of Kansas and received his PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the tutelage of Dr. Terry Housh. His research interests have focused on muscle fatigue, muscle strength, autonomic nervous system regulation of the cardiovascular system, and biostatistical analysis. Much of his current work centers on the application of these interests to spinal cord injury research.

Additionally, Dr. Weir has had immeasurable impact on the NSCA Foundation and NSCA community. He is a Fellow of the NSCA (FNSCA) and contributes his expertise as a Senior Associate Editor of The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (JSCR), receiving the JSCR Editorial Excellence Award in 2018. Most notably, Dr. Weir served as the President of the NSCA Foundation from 2006 – 2009. During this time, he was honored with the William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist Award in 2006 and the NSCA President’s Award in 2007 for his exemplary contributions to the field. Dr. Weir has also authored numerous research articles and contributed to many publications, including the NSCA’s Essentials of Personal Training.
